Canoe trip in Algonquin park WE 7-8-9 october 2006
Here is the team : Anouk and Bastien (switzerland), Pirkko (finland), Mairon (Bresil), Paul, adélaide and Sarah (french)
We had a marvellous we, it was really indian summer !
The trip started on friday (6 th of october) at 13 h in a mini van automatic. Everything was packed : food for 7 meals and 8 persons, the 2 tents, all the foam sleeping pads and sleeping bags, life jackets ... After 6 hours driving, we arrived in our camping to pass the night (around minus 6 °C) and at 8 am the next day we were in the canoes. The weather was so sunny and the color of leaves very beautiful even if most of them (60 %) had already fallen. After less than 30 minutes canoing, anouk and Mairon fell into the water ( around 10 °C according to their saver : a very nice canadian who arrived in motor boat at the speed limit and lent them dry clothes for the 3 days). We could go on our trip but had to shorten it. During this first day, we did canoing on many lakes owing to four portages very hard and we stopped on a small island to camp. The evening was so pleasant : after searching for wood to make fire, we cooked spaguettis and chocolate bananas in aluminium wrap. Pirrko from Finland is the only one to have swim in the freezing lake. Then before sleeping, we carefully followed the instructions not to attract bears by packing all the food, toothpaste, deodorant and the garbage in a plastic drum hooked at a tree. We heared wolves several times but fortunately didn't see any bear. I forgot to say that canadian washrooms are really worthy (you really have to try). After a very good and warm night, we made a fire to cook a wonderful porridge and make boil water from the lake to fill our bottles for the day. Then we started our second day of canoing which started with a 1300 meters portage... That day was as warm and sunny but really more windy that is why we had to paddle really harder. For the night we decided to camp in a very pretty place on a small desert beach. Sure we had a swim (3 of us) as it was still very sunny and then again we cooked rice and sausages on the fire. That was delicious. After a very good night even if 5 in a Four person tent for girls, we continued our trip to give back the canoes and come back home on monday around seven o'clock. That was a real canadian WE !!!
